Abu Dhabi real estate shows major increase in FDI during H1 2024

The Abu Dhabi real estate market has recorded a huge 225% surge in FDI during the first half of the year compared to 2023.

Abu Dhabi attracted AED 3.28bn in real estate investments during the first half of 2024 (H! 2024), showing a huge boost in Foreign direct investment (FDI).

There were 971 individual investors from 75 countries contributing to Abu Dhabi’s investment boom.

The Abu Dhabi Real Estate Centre (ADREC), the regulator of Abu Dhabi’s real estate sector, announced that the real estate market recorded an astonishing 225% surge in FDI for H1 2024 compared to 2023.

The FDI investment came from the United States, United Kingdom, China, Kazakhstan and Russia, amongst other nations. It appears that the diverse investor base indicates a growing confidence of foreign investors in Abu Dhabi.

“The strong performance of Abu Dhabi’s real estate sector reflects the strategic initiatives we have implemented to position the emirate as a premier global investment destination.

“We anticipate that this positive performance will continue into the second half of the year, bolstered by our dedicated efforts to enhance the investment environment. Our commitment to excellence ensures that Abu Dhabi remains a trusted and attractive option for global investors.

“Foreign direct investment plays a crucial role in Abu Dhabi’s vision of economic diversification. Our primary focus is on creating a business-friendly environment characterised by innovation, transparency and efficiency. We are dedicated to streamlining procedures and utilising advanced technologies to make Abu Dhabi an optimal destination for investments.”

H1 2024 recorded 12,439 transaction activities valued at AED 36.2bn, comprising AED 23.7bn from sales and purchase transactions across 7,088 transactions.

“The residential rental market in Abu Dhabi is buzzing right now with lots of activity. This is mostly because the city is a hot spot for expatriates and professionals, thanks to its strong economy and high quality of life.”

It comes as MVRDV designs the Pixel development in Abu Dhabi. MVRDV has arranged the Pixel towers to maximise shade and encourage breeze throughout the plaza and to create a community feel.

The apartments are of varying sizes and prices, ranging from more affordable studios to spacious, luxury three-bedroom homes.

The idea behind the seven-staggered housing block development was to create a communal plaza and stepped terraces to encourage people to spend time mixing with each other. They hope to buck the trend of ‘luxury over community’.

The seven structures that make up the development are organised around the edges of the site, creating space for the central plaza. The tallest of the seven reaches 92 metres in height.
